Where does the sender’s information come from? Communication with Endogenous Information Acquisition
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper revisits the Crawford-Sobel game by allowing the sender to choose her information structure endogenously before communicating with the receiver. Information acquisition here is costly, flexible and unobservable. First, I show under a general setup that the sender necessarily communicates all her information to the receiver in any equilibrium; and the sender’s incentive constraint at the information acquisition stage is a sufficient condition for an equilibrium information structure. Later, I impose more structure and characterize the interval partition equilibria. By comparing them with those in Crawford and Sobel (1982), I find that whether communication is more informative in larger or smaller state values depends not only on the players’ preferences, but also on the magnitude of the information acquisition cost. The setup I introduced in this paper can be applied to provide new insights to various problems in organizational design.

Does whole body exposure to GSM-950 MHz electromagnetic fields affect acquisition and consolidation of spatial information in rats?
Background: This study was planned to examine the effects of whole-body exposure to GSM-950 MHz electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on acquisition and consolidation of spatial memory in rats using a water maze task. Materials and Methods: In experiment 1, the animals were given two blocks of five trials per day for three consecutive days in a water maze task. The interval between blocks was 4h...

Factors influencing cross-national diffusion of mental health policy are important to understand but complex to research. This commentary discusses Shen’s research study on cross-national diffusion of mental health policy; examines the extent to which the three questions researched by Shen (whether countries are more likely to have a mental health policy (a) the earlier a country becomes a memb...

The major challenge for the tomato farmers is getting a fair price at the market price given that there are many actors involved in the tomato value chain. Given this situation, this project's goal was to improve communication pathways in dissemination of agricultural market information in tomato value chains in Iringa and Dodoma Regions in Tanzania. The specific objectives were to: identify an...
متن کاملWell Informed Intermediaries in Strategic Communication∗
This paper studies how a sender with private information can influence the decisionmaker through well informed intermediaries. Both the sender and the intermediary may be independently objective or biased: with the objective type assumed to pass on the most accurate information while the biased type wanting to push a particular agenda but also to appear objective. Although using one’s own infor...
متن کاملA Multicast Packet Authentication using Signature Amortization Scheme
The major principle of multicast communication is that each data packet sent from one source must reach all the receivers exactly as it originates from the source without any modification on the way. For information to be authentic there is the need to ensure that the information is from where they claim to come from and that security requirements are put in place. In multicast applications, wh...
